🏆 Awwwards Winners
🥇 SOTD April 2: iyO — Matteo Donini Portfolio

Designer: Matteo Donini (also received Developer Award) 🔗 Visit Site | Awwwards Details
A personal site that earns its name. Matteo deconstructed his name "iyO" into a full interactive experience: a particle system that flows and morphs with mouse movement, letterforms floating with actual gravitational weight. Minimalist shell, technical obsessive soul. The fact it won both SOTD and Developer Award says it all.
"Highlight: Particle physics + WebGL animation + minimal typography — the ultimate trifecta.

🔬 Breakthrough
Google Gemma 4 Open Models Released 🔗 blog.google
Google's most capable open models to date, under Apache 2.0 license (commercially usable!):
- 4 sizes: E2B (mobile), E4B (edge), 26B MoE, 31B Dense
- Multimodal: text + image input, audio on smaller models
- Context window: up to 256K tokens
- Available now: Hugging Face, Google AI Studio
This is arguably the most significant open-source AI release of 2026 so far. The 31B Dense model outperforms several closed-source competitors at the same parameter scale.
Claude Code Source Code Leak Follow-up 🔗 futurism.com
On March 31, Anthropic accidentally published ~512K lines of TypeScript through an npm package. While Anthropic says it was "human error, not a security breach," developers mirrored the code on GitHub and even rewrote parts in other languages. Internal architecture, unreleased features, and codenames all exposed. An accidental open-source moment that's sparked huge community interest.
Microsoft Expands MAI Model Suite 🔗 aibusiness.com
New in-house models: MAI-Transcribe-1 (noise-optimized STT), MAI-Voice-1 (voice gen), MAI-Image-2 (image gen). The message: Microsoft is reducing its OpenAI dependency.
🎮 Playful AI
Dull App: Instagram as it was in 2012 No Reels, no recommendations, just the people you follow. HN gave it 138 upvotes, confirming the demand for de-algorithmized social media is very real.
OpenAI acquires TBPN tech talk show OpenAI bought the popular tech talk show TBPN to directly control AI narrative. Classic media company playbook, but with an AI twist.
💡 Interaction Innovation
Design in Tech Report 2026: UX → AX Shift
The 2026 report's headline finding: designers must evolve from "User Experience" to "Agentic Experience (AX)." It proposes the "tree-shaped designer" — deep design expertise with branches in AI, systems, evaluation, and computational thinking. Knowing how to use AI tools isn't enough; you need to think and work alongside AI systems.
🍿 Industry Tea
r/LocalLLaMA: Gemma 4 31B Fails Basic Tool Calls Community immediately caught Gemma 4 31B Q6_K struggling with fundamental tool calls. Ongoing debate: is it a quantization issue or a model limitation? The gap between "benchmark performance" and "real-world deployment" remains.
🎨 AI × Creativity
openscreen — Free Open-Source Demo Recording 🔗 github.com/siddharthvaddem/openscreen
Finally, a proper open-source Screen Studio alternative. Background blur, zoom tracking, cursor highlighting, auto-captions. Completely free, commercial use allowed. Essential for designers and indie devs doing product demos.
🔥 Twitter/X Hot Discussions
🤖 AI & Tech
@AnthropicAI — Claude Code Voice Mode live. Hold spacebar, speak your prompt. Free transcription, no rate limit impact.
@GoogleAI — Gemma 4 is here. Most capable open models yet. Apache 2.0. 256K context. Available now.
@sama — Pay-as-you-go Codex-only seats now available for ChatGPT Business/Enterprise. Annual rate drops from $25 to $20/seat.
🎨 Design & Creative
@joulee — The best designers won't just "use AI" — they'll know when AI helps and when it hurts. That judgment is the rarest skill now.
@steveschoger — Someone broke down iyO's particle system: each particle has weight, simulating cloth and fluid physics. That's what tech-driven design looks like.
🚀 Indie & Launches
@levelsio — Side project on $7/month VPS hit $12K MRR yesterday. No VC, no team. Just code and users.
@tdinh_me — Dull blew up on HN (138 upvotes). Not because it's technically impressive — because it nails a real pain point: people want de-algorithmized social media.
🔥 Hot Takes
Thread: Has AI ended the "human programming era"? Viral debate on both Twitter and HN. AI coding tools pressure junior devs but enable solo builders to ship what used to require 10-person teams.
💡 Issue Highlights
🔥 Google Gemma 4 dropped: The most important open-source AI release of 2026 — multimodal, commercial license, 256K context, available now on Hugging Face
🔥 Claude Code Voice Mode: Voice-first coding is finally real — hold spacebar, speak, transcribe, free of charge
🔥 Awwwards SOTD "iyO": Matteo Donini's particle system portfolio wins both design and developer awards — proof that technical craft IS design
